Old Sacramento is home to the Eagle Theatre, a reconstruction of the first building constructed in California for the purpose of a theater. The building resides today on Front Street between I and J Streets just down the block from the Sacramento History Museum. The theater originally opened on October 18, 1849. It cost $30,000 for the construction of the theater that was just 30 by 65 feet in size with a sheet iron or tin roof, lumber salvaged from abandoned ships for the structure, and canvas

We are building up a variety of greeting cards for different holidays, observances, and occasions. This card is for a special person in your life…who also likes trains and puns. In this video, Jared letterpress printed greeting cards using a 4x6 Golding Official No. 2 tabletop printing press. The ink is red rubber base ink and the type font is 30 point Caslon. The text states, “Our love is the coal that makes this train roll!” Also included is an image from a photo engraving depicting a mid-1800

Like this item printed, there are other cuts made by Lewis Winter in the collection that depict animals doing out of the ordinary activities. In this case, it’s a cat riding a penny

As Halloween approaches, we are printing some of the letterpress cuts in our print shop exhibit that fit the holiday. Also, October 26th is National Pumpkin Day! For today, Channey letterpress printed an image from a modern photo engraving, which was made about 20 years ago. This was used to help promote a previous Halloween festival that was held in Old Sacramento. The print depicts a head of a scarecrow with carved pumpkins on each side. This was printed with a gradient of red, yellow, blue, a
