One thing I often do in my practice is help parents understand how children think, feel, and behave differently at each developmental stage. We cannot and should not expect children to operate like adults. They are not miniature adults. This video shows a 3-5 year-old children in what Piaget called the pre-operational stage (typically ages 3–7). At this stage, children can focus on only one striking feature of a situation at a time. Their decisions are driven by what is most perceptually obvious

You feel panic or uncertainty when faced with an overwhelming thought, a painful emotion, or a trigger from your past. Doubts flood your mind: I don’t know how to handle this. What if I mess it up? What if it’s already too late to change this part of my life? This is just who I am. Why should I try to change now? Maybe I’m not strong enough. But here’s the truth: You’re ready. You are well trained, equipped with everything you need, and mentally prepared for what’s going to happen when you start

I understand that not everybody likes foxes, and I respect that my neighbour may feel very differently about them than I do. But I also know my neighbour watches my content, so I hope she sees Scabitha through my eyes for a moment and perhaps finds it in her heart to reconsider and gives me their blessing to continue caring for this fox who’s truly on her own. She isn’t just a random fox I decided to feed. I’ve watched her grow up. I tried to get her out of my garden, saw her two cubs unalived,

The thought of my boys ever believing they have to face this world alone… the way I once did—breaks something deep inside me. As long as I’m breathing, they’ll never have to carry it all by themselves. I’ll help them. Guide them. Protect them. Shield them. I’ll take every hit I can so they have a better chance at becoming the men they’re meant to be. I’m not a perfect Dad. I make mistakes, fall short, and question whether I’m doing enough… but I’ll be friggin’ damned if my boys ever have to wond
