Check out this wild footage from near Childers, QLD this afternoon as a supercell moved through and producing damaging RFD (rear flank downdraft) winds, torrential rainfall and some localised large hail! Sandra has said its the wildest storm to hit her house in the past 30 years! Video by HSC follower Sandra. | Higgins Storm Chasing

This supercell was quickly wrapping up to produce a tornado at this point. ‼️ We wached this storm gradually wrap up and then, as the rear-flank downdraft RFD) began to wrap everything accelerated quickly. You see this a lot on supercells during the Springtime. This whole sequence culiminated in the rain from the RFD wrapping around the meso and shrouding the view from our position. Still, this EFU tornado was documented, and we certainly were in the best spot possible at the time. A solid chase

What goes up must come down. This supercell was kicking up dust in the wake of its mentally strong RFD (Rear Flank Downdraft) before spinning up a rain wrapped tornado that destroyed a house a few miles away. That was a crazy day with a very sad ending, but that‘s how it sometimes goes with storms.. luckily everyone was okay, but only because they stayed in an underground storm shelter! #supercell #tornado #rfd #wind #dust #haboob #shotoniphome | Jonas Piontek - Storm Chaser

Here's an old snippet from the El Dorado-Duke, Oklahoma tornado of May 23, 2024. Matthew Cappucci was in the RFD, or rear flank downdraft – the cold air wraparound – when he filmed this. A rogue tiny hailstone pelted his noggin and spooked him. Sometimes that happens in RFD! | MyRadar Weather Radar
