I was talking to my 90 year old grandpa from Bristol, Virginia, and somehow our conversation wandered through memories of the mountains and old roads. He started talking about his old childhood memories and mentioned Backbone Rock. This tiny tunnel was blasted through the stone back in 1901 for a small timber railroad, only about 20 feet long, and one of the shortest tunnels in the world!!
