Coal Mining Ghost Town Abandoned in Appalachia: Jewell Valley, Virginia in Buchanan County. Once a thriving coal community, Jewell Valley has fallen into ruin as residents abandoned the area leaving scores of abandoned houses, creating a haunting atmosphere. There's no cell service or GPS access in the area due to its remote location. It is a fascinating piece of Appalachian coal history and we are happy to document it so that some visual record of it will remain long after it disappears. CHECK
