I don’t recommend using timeouts. What do I suggest instead? With toddlers, I use consistent corrective actions, and when they are three and older, I recommend starting with the BratBusters Behaviour Board. P.S. If you’re wanting to get started with calm leadership parenting, check out my BratBusters Behaviour Board (Plus Toddler Basics) that I send to my parenting newsletter here https://bratbusters.podia.com/behaviour-board Then, if you’re interested in learning the tools I teach for parenting

How do I keep my toddler in timeout? Personally, I don’t recommend timeouts for any age. So I would suggest you don't do it, and instead focus on consistent corrective actions every single time they do something that you don't like. I'd suggest picking one behavior per week that you wanna correct, and you just do consistent corrective actions. As an example, if they throw a toy, you say no, and you put that toy where they can see it, but can't touch it. You have to do it every single time though

Timeouts need a time out. It’s time to reconsider the effectiveness of traditional timeouts. Instead of isolating children in moments of stress or dysregulation, let’s embrace a more empathetic approach. In our special episode, we delve into the concept of “time in” parenting, where connection and support are prioritized over isolation. Join us as we explore why nurturing relationships and emotional regulation go hand in hand. https://youtu.be/O_EClhGtsQU #timeouts #timein #dysregulation #childd

When it's time to correct your child's behavior, use "Grandma's Law," timeouts and forgiveness in discipline. That's the advice Dr. Randy Schroeder provides in this video. If you're wondering what "Grandma's Law" is, it goes something like this: "when you finish your chicken and vegetables, then you can have the pie I baked you." Dr. Schroeder goes into more detail about using "when you, then you." He also explains that timeouts may be a very popular method of discipline, but instead, or even al

I'm going to be honest here ... I hate timeouts. How come? I'll paint a scenario for you 🎨 Imagine if you made a mistake at work and your boss said ... You're 36 years old so you go sit in the corner for 36 minutes. Oh and you think about what you did while you're sitting there. Then afterwards they give you a lecture about your mistake 😐 Think about it ... it's kind of humiliating ... right? Maybe it's preventing you from not making that same mistake again. But probably only out of fear of be

Does time-out work for toddlers? Parents ask me every day: ✨Is time-out effective for tantrums? ✨Why isn’t time-out working long term? ✨How do I discipline my toddler without yelling? ✨How do I stop hitting and power struggles? Here’s what the research shows. Time-out can temporarily reduce behavior because it removes attention. But there is no strong evidence that traditional time-out alone creates long-term behavior change. Stopping behavior in the moment is not the same as teaching emotional
