A nice green piece of Michigan float copper found by Jimmy while metal detecting in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. We use Minelab Equinox 800 metal detectors. Float copper is copper that was ripped from veins of copper in the bedrock by glaciers. The glaciers carried(floated) the copper with them as they traveled. This was our little groups best find of 2025. We metal detect for float copper in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula using Minelab Equinox metal detectors. The float copper we find was carried(floated) by the glaciers after the glaciers ripped these pieces of copper from veins of copper in the bedrock. Where they deposited them is where we find them. These 3 pieces of Michigan float copper were found this past year while metal detecting in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. With 16”-24” of snow predicted in the next 36 hours, I think our detecting is done until late April. Time to start working on making this stuff pretty. The first is a 134 pound piece that will be turned into two large sets of bookends. The other two pieces will be face cut with cut bases and will be free standing decorators.
