Hundreds of Lesser Flamingo chicks are being rescued in South Africa by the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds. The flamingo’s breeding ground at a drought-wrought South African dam left the chicks helpless, so they were moved to a bird sanctuary in Cape Town. This year, with 19 lesser flamingo chicks, the Zoo has surpassed 400 hatchings (412 to be exact) since our conservation work with this speces began in 2002.
