Former President Joe Biden sought Tuesday to use an audience in Chicago of national advocates for the disabled to reestablish himself as a leading party voice to challenge the actions of President Donald Trump amid listless Democratic leadership in taking on Biden’s successor in the White House.

Former President Joe Biden will be in Chicago on Tuesday to speak at the national conference of Advocates, Counselors and Representatives for the Disabled in an effort to rally bipartisan support for Social Security.

Although organizers have noted Tuesday would mark Biden's first post-White House public appearance, a Biden spokeswoman told the Sun-Times the former president "has been public for some time," including remarks at an IBEW event last week.
