The Fort Bend Public Library has been grappling with “network disruptions” on its website that knocked out its catalogue and e-library services more than two weeks ago. But county officials haven’t responded to questions about what’s causing the problem or how long it will last.

The Fort Bend County library system's director says users have nothing to worry about, but cyber security experts warn otherwise.

The library collects patrons’ names, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth and addresses when they sign up for library cards. Library staff said there’s no evidence to suggest that this data has been compromised during the cyberattack.

Many Texas county courthouses used to be places where the public could apply for things like marriage licenses or schedule an appointment with the tax assessor.  As times have changed, so have the principle buildings that house administrative offices in many counties.
