Encephalitis, a severe condition that leads to brain inflammation, has emerged as a growing global health crisis. In response to the increasing number of cases worldwide, the World Health Organization (WHO) has officially declared encephalitis a global health emergency.

The World Health Organization said it still considers mpox to be a public health emergency of international concern, its most serious classification for health alerts. The current public health emergency was first declared by WHO in August 2024.
