Jensen Huang pulled off something of a political miracle this week for Nvidia shareholders. As the U.S. and China continue to growl at one another over tariffs and other elements of the trade war between the two countries and the race to attain AI superiority, Huang convinced Donald Trump to lift the ban on select AI chip sales to China.

Nvidia’s scaled-down chip is called the H20. Introduced in 2023, it’s a slower version of the company’s H100 chip, which was at one point its fastest data center AI accelerator. AMD’s scaled-down chip is known as the MI308.

The Commerce Department allows Nvidia to sell H20 AI chips to China despite security concerns, and experts are divided on the U.S. technological advantage.
