CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Julian Reese had 27 points and 17 rebounds and Derik Queen scored 25 to lead Maryland to a 91-70 victory over No. 17 Illinois on Thursday night.

Illinois coach Brad Underwood would have expected Maryland to attack with beefy bigs Derik Queen (6-foot-10) and Julian Reese (6-foot-9) – two of its three leading scorers – when the Terrapins visited Champaign on Thursday.

Maryland pushed its lead to 34-24 at the 3:32 mark when Queen used his 4-inch, 40-pound advantage over Jake Davis to power his way for a layup and free throw. Illinois worked its way back within 38-35 at the break as Gibbs-Lawhorn and Boswell canned 3-pointers.

No. 14 Maryland women’s basketball’s senior day was set up for a perfect ending against Illinois. The Terps were down a point when Allie Kubek caught Shyanne Sellers’ inbound pass and gave it right back to Sellers for a slightly contested midrange jumper.
