The price of a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich is climbing all across New York City as egg prices skyrocket due to supply shortages and bird flue outbreaks. FOX 5's Jessica Formoso has the story.

Keeping home chickens as a pastime has continued to grow since the pandemic. But if eggs are the goal, remember that it takes planning and investment to raise the chickens and protect against bird flu. Costs might go well beyond the nationwide average of $4.15 a dozen that commercial eggs sold for in December.

The average price for a dozen eggs in the U.S. has jumped 50% in the past year and the cost increase appears to have accelerated since November.
