At least 30 people have died in Beijing and more than 80,000 were evacuated to safety, Chinese authorities said, as heavy rains and floods ravage roads and houses in northern China. Eight other people died after a landslide on Monday in Chengde city,

Extreme rains and flooding across northern China have killed 60 people, more than half of them at a care home for the elderly in a suburb of Beijing, which has grappled with its deadliest flood disaster in years.

A further four people have reportedly been killed in a landslide in a rural part of Luanping county in Beijing's neighbouring Hebei province.
