Former Houston Astros star Alex Bregman was the centerpiece of the Boston Red Sox' offseason, signing for $120 million over three years. The only issue: The Red Sox already had a franchise player at the hot corner.

Devers spent 1,138 innings as the Red Sox third baseman in 2024. When he wasn't manning the hot corner, he was getting some time off of his feet as a designated hitter. He put up better numbers as a designated hitter, albeit with a very small sample size to work with.

While the Red Sox have not publicly commented on what role Rafael Devers will serve this season, the slugger confirmed to reporters that a decision has already been made.
