The music industry came together for an ambitious Los Angeles fire relief effort the week of the Grammy Awards that is estimated to have raised more than $120 million.

There were questions over whether the Grammys ceremony, the "Oscars for Music," would even go on as planned on Sunday after Los Angeles saw its most devastating fire disaster ever recorded - blazes that were only fully doused on Friday after burning for 24 days.

Sunday's Grammy awards ceremony was a fundraiser for wildfire relief, and a salute to those who fought the blazes. The event raised $7 million by the end of the night. The money will go to organizations directly involved in helping people and communities recover from the Los Angeles area wildfires that started Jan.

FireAid so far has brought in $100 million and counting, MusiCares and Grammys brought in upwards of $24 million through funds brought in from the award show telecast and other benefit activities.

The Grammys and host Trevor Noah admirably spotlighted recovery efforts for the L.A. fires. The Oscars should do the same.

The Recording Academy and CBS' decision to turn the 67th Annual Grammy Awards into a fundraising event has paid off. Sunday night's awards show raised over $24 million for wildlife relief efforts as well as other charitable organizations.
