With Donald Trump fixated on his makeover of Washington, DC, members of a specialized team that responds to wildfires, natural disasters and other emergencies in national parks have been sent to the capital to work on the president’s pet projects.

WASHINGTON — President Trump took a lap of honor around IndyCar’s Freedom 250 Grand Prix 1.7-mile circuit near the US Capitol on Sunday to kick off the capstone event of DC summer festivities for America’s semiquincentennial.

The streets of Washington, DC, will give way to the roar of open-wheel auto racing this weekend as the Freedom 250 Grand Prix zooms around the National Mall. The event will be the first-ever NTT INDYCAR SERIES race on the National Mall and was established via an executive order from President Donald Trump to commemorate the country's 250th anniversary.

Washington DC has been taken over by the IndyCar series, as the Freedom 250 Grand Prix has shut down roads and affected everyday life in the city.
