NASA's Crew-13 mission is scheduled to launch via SpaceX Dragon this Thursday for a long-duration science mission.
NASA deemed the spacecraft unfit to carry the astronauts back home and returned its crew on board SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft instead. Starliner later returned uncrewed in September 2024. Since then, Boeing has been working on fixing the spacecraft’s technical issues in hopes to get its troubled program back on track.
The organizations have committed to flying Starliner’s first official mission without a crew, with the expectation that a crewed flight could come in 2028. Starliner’s last flight was called a type-A mishap and left two astronauts in space.
After a series of engineering upgrades, expect NASA to launch an uncrewed Boeing Starliner spacecraft as soon as December on a cargo mission to the International Space Station.
In April 2024, the space agency explicitly laid out its philosophy: “NASA supports a robust commercial space economy that advances American industry and promotes technological discovery through in-space work and research. NASA remains committed to fostering innovation and collaboration within the American space industry.”
On 18, 2026, Reuters reported that NASA awarded Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) a $946 million contract modification for three more crewed missions to the International Space Station.
