ESPN turned heads earlier this month when it referred to former White Sox closer Bobby Jenks as a member of their 2005 championship team. What ESPN neglected to mention is that Jenks, who died on July 4, recorded the series’ final out to give the White Sox their first title since 1917.

The 18-year-old Carlson is the third shortstop the Sox have selected with a first-round pick in the last five years.

With their first round pick (No. 10 overall), the White Sox selected shortstop Billy Carlson from Corona H.S. (Calif.). The 6´1´´, 185-pound prep has such a strong arm he was seen as a legit two-way player, as he also pitched for four seasons in high school.
