The joint Select Committee on Disaster Preparedness and Flooding will meet Thursday in Kerrville, Texas — the site of the deadly Independence Day Floods — for the second time to hear testimony about the preparation and aftermath of the floods.

Texas lawmakers invited Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly, Kerrville Mayor Joe Herring, Jr., and City Manager Dalton Rice to testify at the hearing Thursday.

The July 4 flood killed 27 campers and counselors at the all-girls Camp Mystic in Hunt. One camper remains missing. The disaster has spurred renewed debate in the state Capitol over the adequacy of flood monitoring, emergency alerts, and response protocols in the region.
