Computer vision technology firm RealSense said on Friday it has completed its spinout from Intel Corp and secured $50 million in early-stage funding to accelerate expansion into the rapidly growing robotics sector.

The round was led by an unnamed semiconductor private equity firm with participation from strategic investors that included Intel Capital and MediaTek Innovation Fund. It will enable RealSense to expand into adjacent markets and advance innovation in artificial intelligence, robotics and biometrics, the company said.

The RealSense spinout is part of the same narrative. The subsidiary originated in 2013 as part of Intel’s Perceptual Computing line, rebranding to RealSense in 2014. Its depth and tracking CV technologies are used in autonomous drones, robots, AR/VR, and smart home devices.
