After years of delay, U.S. residents will need a Real ID by May 7, 2025. A Real ID is an “enhanced version” of a driver’s license of state ID card that meets federal standards, according to Mass.gov.

To get a Real ID in New Hampshire or Maine, you must make an in-person visit at a DMV and bring the required documents. The Department of Homeland Security has been warning flyers of the need for a Real ID for years, but the deadline to get one has finally arrived: on May 7, U.S. residents must have a Real ID to travel.
