Liverpool have confirmed the decision to retire the number 20 jersey permanently to honour Diogo Jota's legacy. This decision was taken after consulting with Jota's wife, Rute Cardoso and his family, as it now means that the Portuguese will be 'forever Liverpool's number 20.'

Liverpool has retired the No. 20 shirt worn by Diogo Jota following his death in a car crash last week. The 28-year-old Jota died along with his brother Andre Silva, also a soccer player, near the northwestern city of Zamora, Spain.

Coaching staff and players at Wolverhampton Wanderers have paid their respects to former team-mate Diogo Jota.The 28-year-old, who left the club to join Liverpool in 2020, died alongside his brother Andre Silva in a car accident in the Spanish province of Zamora on 3 July.
