The Dallas Stars are reportedly interested in a trade for Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri with a specific motive driving them.

On Oct. 25, 2024, the Mavs sent the Stars a letter telling them they had defaulted on the partnership by basing their offices in Frisco, outside Dallas city limits. The letter included the $110 required to buy out a defaulting partner under terms of the Center Operating Company contract.

The Stars won 3-2 in a shootout against the Pittsburgh Penguins at American Airlines Center. Defenseman Miro Heiskanen scored the game-tying goal with 1:49 remaining in regulation while the Stars had a 6-on-5 advantage to force overtime. Jake Oettinger made three saves in the shootout where Mikko Rantanen scored the game-winner.
